OUR MISSION
As a nonprofit private foundation, Inspire International™ is an international advocacy organization focused on the fight against childhood cancer. Our mission is to help enable the breakthrough of new advanced pediatric cancer therapies, to address the unique needs and challenges faced by childhood cancer patients and their families, and to provide resources in support of enhanced research and specialized care.
DESIGNATION
Inspire International™ is classified as a nonprofit private foundation. The reason for our designation is that nonprofit private foundations provide the greatest control of any planned giving vehicle. It enables more control over how our assets are allocated in order to do the most good. This designation enables us to make the largest possible impact in that effort. This designation also provides greater latitude as to the types of assets that can be donated to the foundation, enabling us to reach our fundraising goals and more quickly allocate needed resources.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PRIVATE FOUNDATION AND A PUBLIC CHARITY?
A private foundation is a nonprofit organization having a principal fund managed by its own trustees or directors. Private foundations maintain or aid charitable, educational, religious, or other activities serving the public good, primarily through the making of grants to other nonprofit organizations.
A main difference between private foundations and public charities is that public charities generally derive their funding or support primarily from the general public, receiving grants from individuals, government, and private foundations. Although some public charities engage in grantmaking activities, most conduct direct service or other tax-exempt activities. A private foundation, on the other hand, usually derives a large portion of its principal funds from a variety of sources, including individuals, groups, other entities, and the general public, and more often than not is a grantmaker. Private foundations have greater control over the allocation of assets and can easily distribute needed resources in a timely manner.
